In 1883, a young woman could answer a newspaper ad, board a train alone, and end up running a hotel restaurant in the middle of the New Mexico desert. That’s what the Harvey Girls did. They left home for a job nobody expected them to take and turned it into the adventure of their life.
LIZZIE in HARVEY GIRL is named for them. This mini caftan is made from vintage yo-yo rosettes, hand stitched in the early 1900s from whatever fabric scraps could be spared. Nothing was wasted, so someone turned feed sacks and dress remnants into something beautiful because that’s what the moment demanded. We deconstruct and reconstruct those rosettes into our own SUNDAY SUPPER patterns, and this one’s cut on the diagonal, pieced back together with real architecture to it. It’s one of the sharpest version of THE LIZZIE we’ve made yet. Putting this one on is its own kind of leap, the kind that stops a room.
